Random observations in approximate order of occurence while watching the Lakers/Rockets game and the Super Bowl:

First Half, Rockets Game

  • Why doesn't ABC broadcast these nationally televised NBA games in HD? Disney has the equipment over at the ESPN branch; I don't see why they can't do this with games that so many people watch. Not that it matters, because for some reason the local ABC affiliate's HD broadcast is down.
  • Oh man, they just asked Kobe a bunch of questions about his ankle and the Lakers, and he presented the typical Kobe persona (pre-rape allegations). I wonder if anyone in America respects him as a person anymore. When asked who was going to win the Super Bowl, he literally paused for like 5 seconds, and then said "Of course the Eagles" in the most unconfident way imaginable. I guess he knows that he's from "Philly" but also that the Pats are heavily favored.
  • Switched back to Fox to see what they're playing. Apparently there are some NASCAR drivers competing with baseball players to see who can hit a golf ball closer to the pin. And everyone's hitting into the water. What a stupid waste of time. They should donate these HD cameras over to ABC sports to cover the Rockets game.
  • I take back my previous criticism of Yao. He's actually been looking pretty good the last couple of games.
  • What's up with these Verizon commercials? If my kids mocked me by pretending to have phones and talking into their hands all day, I'd never buy them anything again. And the other Verizon commercial with the white family and the clueless dad has disrespectful daughters too. You know, the one where the Dad is trying his best to connect with his kids and they just ignore him and thank Mom for joining 'IN' with Verizon wireless. I bet Dad's the one paying for those lines, too. I seethe with anger when I see any Verizon commercial.
  • Fox is still playing stupid golf crap. Does anyone else in America think that 5 hours is a bit excessive for a pregame show? We're saluting the troops and marching pop performers in front of the screen, while NASCAR drivers make cameos. The "football" coverage consists of asking Brett Favre whether he prefers a great kiss or a great movie. Great.

Halftime, Second Half

  • Ahmad Rashad's interviewing Amare Stoudamire. One problem - the cameraman refuses to focus on either interviewer or interviewee, but instead just plays with the lens for some retarded blur effect. ABC compensates by playing Amare highlights with the audio of the interview. By the way, this guy is pretty freaking good.
  • OH AWESOME. ABC just cut off Bill Walton, mid-sentence. They faded out his mic and cut to a commercial before he was finished.
  • I want to see a commercial that shows some bland vanilla pudding with a voiceover "If this is your gourmet dessert, Michelob Ultra is your beer." Who drinks this carbonated grain water? And apparently Michelob Ultra was so successful in cornering the market that Coors thought they should come out with Aspen Edge. Americans suck at drinking beer.
  • And the commentators have called him "Ming" again. I hate when they do that.
  • How the hell can the Rockets blow this lead? Why do I root for this team? At least they squeaked by in this one.

Super Bowl

  • These commercials suck. I'm upset.
  • Both of these teams look so sloppy right now. I'm wondering how the score can still be tied at 0.
  • I'm not taking any more notes. I'd rather eat junk food and talk to the guests.

Yeah overall, I feel that this was a waste of a day. There was nothing memorable, and I took SuperBowl-blogged for no reason. Bah.
