My third rambling on this site was a bitter complaint about the state of one-dimensional politics: the country had only two parties to choose from, and neither provided a good fit for the average voter. Some people are for gay marriage and for the war in Iraq and for the death penalty and against irresponsible spending and against the latest round of tax cuts and for tax code simplification and against corporate welfare and against no-bid contracts for Halliburton and against the assault weapons ban. In fact, that's where I stand on those issues. Both parties disgust me.
Republicans are taking over the country. Bigots and racists can be a little bit more open because of it. Hillbillies and rednecks can stand proud. Jews, blacks, and gays have much to fear. Run away to California and New York, for Red America wants nothing to do with you.
Democrats are incompetent politicians. Instead of formulating effective strategies, they complain about the evil Karl Rove and offer the country no real ideas. Since they have to represent the interests of blacks, hispanics, jews, gays, hippies, environmentalists, catholics, union workers, Manhattan socialites, and Hollywood celebrities, they make a lot of noise but say absolutely nothing. They secretly wish for disaster in Iraq and recession in America, so that they can dance with glee on the big-media-controlled television networks and say "I told you so, four more years would bring disaster upon the nation!" They are hoping for a deadly terrorist attack to prove that Bush hasn't made us any safer. They will complain and whine incessantly about the aforementioned hillibillies and rednecks who run the country.
I will now propose a solution. Dump your political party. There is no room in this great nation for bigots who have a problem with Steve marrying Jason, but not with Rush Limbaugh's third divorce or Bill O'Reilly's phone sex addiction. There is no room in this nation for politicians who are too afraid to play the game effectively.
Social conservatives, look at your leader! Your president supports civil unions for gays, possibly has had a cocaine habit, possibly paid for his girlfriend's abortion, has been caught calling a reporter a "major league asshole" and flicked off a camera, laughing it off as a "one hand victory salute." He definitely had a major drinking problem, and he doesn't care about those less fortunate than himself. His Vice President has been known to resolve disagreements with "Go fuck yourself." You religious types have to recognize that your party hates minorities and homosexuals, and that blind hate is incompatible with your religious beliefs. Either leave the church or leave the Republicans.
Iraq doves and homosexual advocates - why did you nominate and rally behind someone who stands against you on your issues? Why couldn't you nominate Howard Dean? If you can't present a candidate who stands for your values, how can you expect the rest of the country to notice your cause? Oh that's right, Kerry is "most electable." Does nobody realize that it's simply too early in the campaign in primary season to accurately determine who's most "electable"? Just go with who you like next time and rally the base.
Black America - Stop compromising. Who says that the people who will fight for your rights as minorities have to also be activists against your religion? Why does every black political leader have to be a Reverend? Either endorse a secular black leader whom the Democratic Party can accept, or leave the Democratic Party.
I will be furious if there are only two viable parties in the 2024 elections. Until I find a party I can latch on to, I will be a fierce independent flirting with the Libertarian Party. If only they didn't nominate such an idiot this time around.
