If you haven't seen it yet, MTV has a show where they send individuals to annoy unwitting strangers in public places. Obnoxious fat men try to pick up girls who are clearly with their boyfriends, retail or food service employees intentionally provide shoddy customer service, and MTV generally tries its best to piss people off. Think Punk'd but with regular people instead of stars. Each event is assigned a length of time after which the participant would win a certain sum of money for putting up with crap without getting violent or dropping a 4 letter word. Do a google search of it if you want more info; you will agree that the show is retarded. Unless you're in MTV's target demographic, dumbass.

Why does this show infuriate me so? It rewards timidity and encourages the general MTV viewing population (morons to begin with) to put up with absurd situations in a civil manner. Most of the people who "lose" on this show exhaust their peaceful options while the ridiculous MTV actor intentionally provokes the victim. Assholes and morons should not be tolerated, and if I were to be on the show, I definitely would lose within the first 2 minutes.

I've worked in food service before. I know how it feels for someone who thinks that a big tip can somehow make being an asshole ok. Which is another issue with this show - the amount of money they give to the "winners" is insulting. Only giving a girl $100 for quietly accepting the fact that changing room footage of her trying on swimsuits will be shown on a "Girls Gone Wild" style tape is like intentionally spilling food all over them and giving them $20 for the inconvenience. In fact, I bet they'll eventually do that (if they haven't already).

I have the same problem with Fox's "My Big Fat Obnoxious..." shows. I hope someone burns down these producers' houses and gives them $500 for the trouble. You know, plus the insurance money for the house.

Update (12/07/04) - I just reread what I typed here. Ignore me, I suck. I ramble incoherently without presenting a point. I guess that is the purpose of my site, but it's still unsatisfying nonetheless.
