I know I haven't updated. It's because I'm contemplating what to do next with this site. I've grown bored with the format, and I've had writer's block for about 3 months now. So I apologize for the slip in quality in my writing (something I tried to make up for with ridiculous pictures here and here). Reading back at my old ramblings, I realize that I don't have the anger or elitism that used to make this site work. Stupid people don't piss me off anymore. I think it has a lot to do with me not working in food service anymore. I've mellowed considerably. Which hurts the entertainment value of this site. I mean, it exists primarily to entertain, and I've been cheating to accomplish this end.
Now I need to know what to do next. Here are some ideas that I'm considering:
- A "real" blog with short entries, updated daily.
- I have had plenty of ideas for articles, but I could never turn them into full articles. I have about 10 half articles written, never finished, because I couldn't get into the topics with any depth. I've given up all hope of learning php or asp or perl or anything like that in my spare time and writing my own blogging program, so I'd probably just use one of those freeware scripts. Let me be perfectly clear - this will not be one of those "I had cereal for breakfast today and then I went to school and let me tell you who I ran into" blogs. It should cover the same type of material that I do now.
- Keep a military training blog.
- Think hoo-ah.net with a more personal approach. Such a blog would first and foremost be for my friends, just to give them updates on my life and stuff. Actually, I'm definitely going to be doing this to some degree. The question becomes whether I want this to be a parallel project while I still maintain this site, with no cross-linking between the two or even acknowledgement of a relationship between the two sites (easier for PERSEC, since my identity is already on this site), whether to make it a sister site where each site is geared towards its respective audience but the readers know that I maintain both sites, or just shift the tone of the ramblings on this site to reflect my change in career from student to soldier.
- Stop writing on one topic per page and just make true ramblings from time to time.
- It would probably take the form of James Lilek's bleats. I have plenty of one paragraph thoughts on plenty of topics, but I always feel like I'm cheating if I don't write enough.
- New color scheme.
- This setup just sucks. I've been meaning to change it for a while, but I have no sense of style. Give me your ideas.
As always, comments are appreciated.
Note (02/11/05) - I am now aware that hoo-ah.net might be written by a poser, not an actual SF guy. Regardless, I'd like to still do something similar, and you can rest assured that what I write will be grounded in my own experience.
